Honda Automobile Production and Sales Statistics
Honda’s automobile statistics distinguish worldwide production from domestic sales, registrations and exports. During calendar year 2024, worldwide automobile production reached 3,727,492 vehicles, including 693,259 in Japan and 3,040,343 outside Japan.
| 2024 automobile production geography | Units |

Honda sold 668,400 vehicles in Japan during 2024. That domestic-sales figure includes registrations and mini-vehicles, so it should not be combined directly with the separate registration and mini-vehicle categories.
- Japan vehicle registrations totaled 380,084 Honda units in 2024.
- Honda sold 288,316 mini-vehicles in Japan during 2024.
- Honda exported 90,163 vehicles from Japan during 2024.
- Europe received 52,825 Honda vehicles exported from Japan during 2024; this is an export count, not total European sales.
Honda Motorcycle Statistics and Global Reach
Motorcycles are a separate Honda product population from automobiles. Honda motorcycle unit sales reached 20.57 million worldwide in FY2025, and Honda described that volume as approximately 40% of the global motorcycle market.
Honda also reported an all-time fiscal-year sales record in 37 countries and territories during FY2025. The record count identifies markets with a record, not the sales total in those markets.
| Honda motorcycle network measure | Reported figure | Scope or period |
|---|---|---|
| Annual production capacity | More than 20 million | 23 countries and regions, 2025 |
| Production entities | 37 | 23 countries and regions, 2025 |
| Dealer reach | More than 30,000 dealers | Worldwide, 2025 |
| Cumulative production milestone | 500 million motorcycles | Reached May 22, 2025 |

Honda began mass motorcycle production in 1949 and first exceeded 20 million motorcycles of annual production in 2018. It reached 400 million cumulative motorcycles in 2019 and 500 million in 2025; these are company milestones rather than a continuous annual production series.
Honda Fuel Economy and Vehicle Efficiency Data
EPA efficiency statistics use estimated real-world fuel economy for U.S. light-duty vehicles, not laboratory window-sticker ratings. Honda’s model-year 2024 new-vehicle fleet measured 31.0 mpg, compared with 27.2 mpg for the overall U.S. new-vehicle market.
| Model-year 2024 estimated real-world fuel economy | mpg | Population |
|---|---|---|
| Honda new-vehicle fleet | 31.0 | Honda vehicles sold in the United States |
| Overall average | 27.2 | U.S. new light-duty vehicle market |
Source: Highlights of the Automotive Trends Report.
The overall U.S. new-vehicle average increased 0.1 mpg from model year 2023 to 2024. Across the 2004–2024 comparison, average U.S. new-vehicle fuel economy was 41% higher in 2024 than in 2004 and improved in 16 of the last 20 years.
The industry comparison also found that 13 of the 14 largest U.S. manufacturers increased estimated real-world fuel economy from model years 2019 to 2024. Honda is one of the manufacturers included in that comparison, but the comparison is not a Honda-only time series.
Honda Electrification Statistics, Targets and Technology Trends
Honda’s electrification figures are corporate targets and plans, not achieved outcomes. The central global vehicle target is for EVs and FCEVs to represent 100% of global vehicle sales by 2040.
| Honda electrification plan | Target or planned result | Timing or baseline |
|---|---|---|
| EV and FCEV share of global vehicle sales | 100% | 2040 |
| Planned EV production capacity | Approximately 2 million EVs per year | Long-term plan reported 2024 |
| North American battery procurement cost | More than 20% reduction | By 2030 versus current batteries |
| Overall EV production cost | Approximately 35% reduction | Long-term target reported 2024 |
| Electric motorcycle introductions | 30 models | By 2030 |
Honda also expects next-generation e:HEV fuel economy to improve by more than 10%. It aims to reduce next-generation hybrid-system cost by more than 50% versus systems introduced in 2018 and by more than 30% versus the 2023 system used in current models.
These percentages are forward-looking company targets relative to the specified baselines. They should not be read as measured reductions already delivered across Honda’s vehicle fleet.
