Honda Hybrid Statistics: Sales, Efficiency, Prices, and Future Targets

Honda hybrid statistics span three different measures: U.S. adoption, current vehicle specifications, and Honda’s global forward targets. American Honda reported more than 308,000 hybrid-electric vehicles sold in the United States during calendar year 2024, while current U.S. model listings show Civic, Accord, and CR-V hybrids with different prices, efficiency estimates, power outputs, and utility. The figures below keep those populations, periods, geographies, and measurement types separate.

Published physical and powertrain scale

The current Honda hybrid range covers sedans and a compact crossover, so physical scale is best read model by model. These are manufacturer specifications for the listed U.S. model-year trims, not a single fleet average.

Model and period Wheelbase Length Passenger or cargo measure
2026 Civic hybrid sedan 107.7 inches 184.8 inches 96.6 cubic feet passenger volume
2026 Accord hybrid sedan 111.4 inches 195.7 inches 102.8 cubic feet EPA passenger volume
2027 CR-V hybrid Not supplied Not supplied 103.5 cubic feet EPA passenger volume

The Civic dimensions and passenger volume come from Honda’s 2026 Civic Sedan Features & Specs. The Accord figures are from 2026 Accord Sedan Features & Specs, and the CR-V passenger-volume figure is from Honda’s 2027 Honda CR-V Compact Crossover SUV | Features and Pricing. The CR-V’s 103.5 cubic feet is an EPA passenger-volume specification for the listed 2027 hybrid trims; it is not cargo volume.

Powertrain ratings also differ in what they describe. The 2026 Civic hybrid uses a 1,993 cc Atkinson-cycle inline four-cylinder engine with a 13.9:1 compression ratio. Its gasoline engine is rated at 141 SAE net horsepower at 6,000 rpm, while its electric motor is rated at 181 SAE net horsepower at 5,000–6,000 rpm and 232 lb-ft of torque from 0–2,000 rpm. Honda lists 200 horsepower as total system output. These ratings should not be added together because engine, motor, and system output are different measures.

The 2026 Accord hybrid also uses a 1,993 cc engine. Its electric motor is rated at 181 horsepower at 5,000–8,000 rpm and 247 lb-ft from 0–2,000 rpm, while total system output is 204 horsepower. The 2027 CR-V hybrid uses a 1,993 cc Atkinson-cycle inline four-cylinder engine, with 145 SAE net horsepower at 6,100 rpm, an electric motor rated at 181 horsepower at 5,000–8,000 rpm and 247 lb-ft from 0–2,000 rpm, and 204 horsepower of total system output. Those Accord and CR-V specifications are manufacturer ratings for the named U.S. model years.

U.S. sales and adoption

American Honda reported more than 308,000 hybrid-electric vehicles sold in the United States in calendar year 2024, calling it an all-time brand record. Because the result is reported as “more than,” it is a lower bound rather than an exact total. It applies to American Honda’s U.S. sales and should not be generalized to global Honda hybrid volume. The source is American Honda Rides Strong Second Half to Nearly 9% Annual Auto Sales Increase.

The same 2024 report provides model-level adoption signals:

  • More than 203,000 CR-V hybrids were sold in the United States.
  • CR-V hybrids represented 50% of Honda CR-V sales in the United States.
  • Total CR-V sales reached 402,791 units, including non-hybrid versions.
  • Accord hybrid-electric vehicles were more than 51% of U.S. Accord sales.
  • The new Civic hybrid contributed more than 31% of Civic U.S. sales in the fourth quarter, a quarterly mix rather than a full-year share.

The CR-V was the largest model-level hybrid volume explicitly quantified in that 2024 evidence, with more than 203,000 U.S. units. That wording does not establish the CR-V’s share of every hybrid model’s sales or prove that it was the largest component of the complete brand total.

For an earlier benchmark, Honda reported 197,317 CR-V hybrid units and 96,323 Accord hybrid sedan units sold in the United States during calendar year 2023. The figures appear in Honda Achieves Record Electrified Sales in 2023 with America’s Top-Selling Hybrid-Electric Models. They are U.S. model-level totals, not global sales, and the available evidence does not provide a comparable full-year Civic hybrid figure for 2024.

Civic hybrid performance and price

For the 2026 U.S. model year, Honda lists the Civic Sport Hybrid at a starting MSRP of $29,395 and the Civic Sport Touring Hybrid at $32,395. These manufacturer list prices exclude taxes, destination, options, and dealer charges. The source is 2026 Civic Sedan Features & Specs.

Both listed Civic hybrid trims carry EPA estimates of 50 city, 47 highway, and 49 combined mpg. EPA ratings are laboratory estimates, so actual fuel economy varies with driving conditions. The hybrid’s total system output is rated at 200 horsepower. Honda separately lists 141 SAE net horsepower for the gasoline engine and 181 SAE net horsepower for the electric motor; the separate values are not additional system horsepower.

The Civic hybrid’s 10.6-gallon fuel tank describes capacity, not usable range. Honda also lists no scheduled tune-ups until approximately 100,000 miles for the 2026 Civic hybrid trims. That is a manufacturer maintenance-program statement, not a promise that no maintenance is needed before that mileage.

The two trim curb weights are 3,208 pounds for the Sport Hybrid and 3,252 pounds for the Sport Touring Hybrid. Those are trim-specific manufacturer specifications. They should not be read as a universal Civic hybrid weight or used to infer fuel economy beyond Honda’s listed EPA estimates.

Accord hybrid performance and price

Honda’s 2026 U.S. Accord hybrid pricing ranges across four listed trims:

Trim Starting MSRP EPA city/highway/combined estimate
Sport Hybrid $33,795 46 / 41 / 44 mpg
EX-L Hybrid $35,095 51 / 44 / 48 mpg
Sport-L Hybrid $35,495 46 / 41 / 44 mpg
Touring Hybrid $39,495 46 / 41 / 44 mpg

Prices exclude taxes, destination, options, and dealer charges. The efficiency figures are EPA laboratory estimates; trim and driving conditions affect real-world results. The 2026 Accord Sedan Features & Specs page lists 204 horsepower for the hybrid system, a 1,993 cc gasoline engine, and a 12.8-gallon fuel tank. The tank capacity is not a range measurement.

Honda lists 181 horsepower at 5,000–8,000 rpm and 247 lb-ft of torque from 0–2,000 rpm for the Accord hybrid electric motor. As with the Civic, the motor rating is not a second vehicle total to add to the system rating. Honda also lists no scheduled tune-ups until approximately 100,000 miles for the 2026 Accord hybrid trims, while noting through the nature of the program that other maintenance remains possible.

CR-V hybrid performance and utility

The 2027 U.S. CR-V hybrid lineup has three listed starting prices: $36,030 for the Sport Hybrid, $39,125 for the Sport-L Hybrid, and $42,950 for the Sport Touring Hybrid. These are manufacturer MSRPs excluding taxes, destination, options, and dealer charges. The pricing and specifications are listed in 2027 Honda CR-V Compact Crossover SUV | Features and Pricing.

EPA estimates vary by drivetrain and trim. The front-wheel-drive CR-V hybrid is rated at 43 city, 36 highway, and 40 combined mpg. Listed all-wheel-drive hybrid trims are rated at 40 city, 34 highway, and 37 combined mpg, while the AWD TrailSport Hybrid is rated at 38 city, 33 highway, and 35 combined mpg. These are estimates, not measured owner averages; AWD and trim affect the result.

The 2027 CR-V hybrid provides 36.3 cubic feet of cargo volume behind the second row and 71.8 cubic feet behind the first row on the listed hybrid trims. Its AWD trims list 1,000 pounds of towing capacity. Both measurements are manufacturer specifications, and actual towing depends on equipment and conditions.

The CR-V hybrid’s 204-horsepower total system output matches the 2026 Accord hybrid rating, but the vehicle’s utility measures answer different questions from a sedan’s passenger volume. The CR-V engine is rated at 145 SAE net horsepower at 6,100 rpm, and the electric motor at 181 horsepower and 247 lb-ft of torque. Those are separate component ratings, not figures to sum.

Engineering targets and outlook

Honda’s 2025 business briefing describes targets for the global Honda automobile business, not observed U.S. sales results. Honda set a target of more than 10% fuel-economy improvement for next-generation e:HEV models from 2027 onward. It also aims to reduce next-generation hybrid-system cost by more than 50% compared with systems installed in models introduced in 2018, and by more than 30% compared with the system introduced in 2023 to current models. Both are corporate targets; the briefing did not report a realized cost series or a production result.

Honda plans to launch 13 next-generation HEV models globally over a four-year span beginning in 2027. It set a 2030 HEV sales target of 2.2 million units, in a context assuming total automobile sales above the then-current level of 3.6 million units. These are planned or forecast figures, so launches, market availability, and results can change.

Honda also said its global EV sales ratio in 2030 is now expected to fall below the previously announced 30% target, increasing the strategic role assigned to HEVs during the transition. That revised outlook is not a forecast of HEV share. The corporate targets and outlook are documented in the Summary of 2025 Honda Business Briefing.
