Motorcycle ownership is difficult to measure globally because production, sales, registrations, household ownership, and active use describe different populations. The available figures below therefore separate Honda’s observed production and sales from local survey evidence and corporate forecasts.

Global Motorcycle Production and Participation Scale
Honda’s worldwide production series gives a large, clearly defined supply measure. The 2026 Digital FactBook reports 18,552,415 units in 2023, 19,963,971 in 2024, and 21,220,264 in 2025 across Honda worldwide operations.
| Year | Honda motorcycle and powersports production | Geography and definition |
|---|---|---|
| 2023 | 18,552,415 units | Honda worldwide operations |
| 2024 | 19,963,971 units | Honda worldwide operations |
| 2025 | 21,220,264 units | Honda worldwide operations |
Source: 2026 Digital FactBook – Worldwide Operations. The table is labeled motorcycle and powersports, so it may include powersports products beyond two-wheeled motorcycles; production is not household ownership.
Honda’s 2024 report separately recorded 18.819 million motorcycle-business unit sales for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2024. It also described annual global motorcycle sales volume as around 20 million units per year and reported approximately 30,000 dealers worldwide in the 2024 report.
These measures show manufacturing, company sales, and distribution reach rather than the number of motorcycles currently owned or actively ridden. A global ownership rate cannot be inferred from them without registration, household, or active-use data.

Two local studies add participation context, but neither is a global ownership estimate. The 2009 Thai Cohort Study included 57,154 respondents, of whom 5,608 reported traffic-crash injury in the previous 12 months, while the Makurdi study analyzed 1,412 household questionnaires.

The Thai results describe a cohort survey, and the Makurdi results describe a local Nigerian sample; neither should be generalized globally.
Asian Motorcycle Production Statistics
Honda’s Asian production figures show where supply capacity is concentrated, but they should not be read as country ownership totals or registration counts.
| Country | 2023 production | 2024 production | 2025 production |
|---|---|---|---|
| India | 4,277,838 | 5,381,284 | 5,567,109 |
| Indonesia | 5,050,265 | 5,011,450 | 4,975,533 |
| Vietnam | 2,290,754 | 2,455,087 | 2,386,918 |
| Thailand | 1,561,169 | 1,474,063 | 1,587,749 |
| Pakistan | 951,852 | 1,123,068 | 1,477,564 |
| Philippines | 649,020 | 745,068 | 840,925 |

The three-year series shows different movements by production location. India’s reported output rose from 4,277,838 units in 2023 to 5,567,109 in 2025, while Indonesia’s moved from 5,050,265 to 4,975,533 over the same period.
Thailand produced 1,474,063 units in 2024 and 1,587,749 in 2025. Vietnam produced 2,455,087 in 2024, Pakistan produced 1,123,068, and the Philippines produced 745,068 in that year.
These are Honda motorcycle and powersports production figures by country. They indicate factory output, not the share of households owning a motorcycle, the number of active riders, or the size of a country’s registered fleet.
South American Motorcycle Production and Sales Data
Honda’s South American figures combine production and company sales, so the measures answer different questions. The regional production subtotal was 1,438,860 units in 2023, 1,560,239 in 2024, and 1,877,839 in 2025.
| Measure | 2023 | 2024 | 2025 |
|---|---|---|---|
| South America production subtotal | 1,438,860 units | 1,560,239 units | 1,877,839 units |
| Brazil production | 1,221,606 units | 1,321,489 units | 1,533,941 units |
| Argentina production | 108,493 units | 108,741 units | 141,137 units |
Source: 2026 Digital FactBook – Worldwide Operations. The Argentina 2023 factbook display is recorded as 108.493 and interpreted as 108,493 units; production is not ownership.
Honda’s separate South America report says its Brazilian plants produced 1.45 million motorcycle units in 2024 and that South America sales totaled 1.46 million units that year. It also reports that regional sales increased 9% in 2024 compared with 2023.
The same report records more than 112,000 units sold in Argentina, 58,000 in Peru, and more than 5,000 in Chile in 2024. These are rounded Honda company-sales figures, not total registrations or ownership stocks for those countries.

North American, European and African Motorcycle Supply
Honda’s reported production outside the largest Asian locations was more varied in scale. In 2024, the company produced 131,074 units in Mexico, 116,837 in the United States, 136,201 in Italy, and 42,515 in Nigeria.
| Country | 2023 | 2024 | 2025 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mexico | 124,777 | 131,074 | 140,856 |
| United States | 118,366 | 116,837 | 108,761 |
| Italy | 130,296 | 136,201 | 150,445 |
| Nigeria | 34,363 | 42,515 | 60,820 |
Source for all rows: 2026 Digital FactBook – Worldwide Operations. These are factory production statistics, not registered fleets or household ownership.
The 2025 figures were 140,856 units in Mexico, 108,761 in the United States, 150,445 in Italy, and 60,820 in Nigeria. The country series is useful for describing Honda’s supply footprint, but it cannot establish how many residents own motorcycles or how often they ride.
Honda Motorcycle Ownership Trends Over Time
Honda’s fiscal-year unit-sales series provides a consistent company trend, while remaining distinct from ownership stock. Sales were 19.340 million in fiscal 2020, for the year ended March 31, 2020, and 15.132 million in fiscal 2021, for the year ended March 31, 2021.
| Honda fiscal year | Motorcycle-business unit sales |
|---|---|
| Ended March 31, 2020 | 19.340 million |
| Ended March 31, 2021 | 15.132 million |
| Ended March 31, 2022 | 17.027 million |
| Ended March 31, 2023 | 18.757 million |
| Ended March 31, 2024 | 18.819 million |
| Ending March 31, 2025 | 19.800 million forecast |

The reported series reaches 17.027 million in fiscal 2022, 18.757 million in fiscal 2023, and 18.819 million in fiscal 2024. Honda forecast 19.800 million for fiscal 2025, which should be kept separate from observed historical values.
Electric Motorcycle Adoption Targets
Honda’s electric-motorcycle figures are corporate targets rather than measured ownership outcomes. The company raised its global electric-motorcycle sales target to 4 million units by 2030 and plans to launch approximately 30 electric motorcycle models globally by 2030.
Honda also targets a roughly 50% reduction in completed-motorcycle cost by 2030 through standardization and modularization. This is a targeted production cost, not a forecast of a consumer’s total ownership cost.
The company plans approximately ¥500 billion of investment through the fiscal year ending March 31, 2031 for motorcycle electrification and related efforts. It also targets at least a 5% rate of sales for electric motorcycles by 2030, a corporate profitability target rather than an ownership measure.
