51 Honda Production Statistics on Automobiles and Motorcycles

Honda’s production footprint spans automobile plants worldwide and a much larger motorcycle network. The figures below separate fiscal, calendar, monthly and partial-year periods, and distinguish production from sales, capacity and forecasts.

Honda’s official automobile totals vary depending on whether the period is fiscal or calendar based. Honda’s fiscal year ends March 31, so FY2024 and FY2023 should not be read as calendar-year totals.

Period Worldwide automobile production Year-over-year measure
FY2022 3,820,814 92.2% of FY2021
FY2023 4,117,851 107.8% of prior fiscal year
FY2024 3,636,696 88.3% of FY2023
Calendar 2024 3,727,492 89.0% of calendar 2023

Honda reported FY2022 worldwide production at 3,820,814 automobiles, labeling that period April 2022 through March 2023. FY2023 production reached 4,117,851, while FY2024 declined to 3,636,696; the official FY2024 production, sales and export results provide the latest fiscal comparison.

The calendar view gives a different period boundary: Honda produced 3,727,492 automobiles worldwide in calendar 2024, or 89.0% of calendar 2023. Monthly results also moved unevenly, with 421,759 automobiles produced worldwide in March 2023, equal to 108.4% of March 2022, compared with 271,388 in December 2024, equal to 77.8% of December 2023; these figures are reported in Honda’s FY2023 results and December 2024 results.

March 2025 worldwide production was 328,944 automobiles, or 96.4% of March 2024. Japan contributed 61,154 automobiles, or 99.6% of its March 2024 level, while production outside Japan totaled 267,790, or 95.7%; these are monthly production measures, not sales.

Regional Honda Automobile Production Data

Honda’s regional aggregates show North America holding relatively steady in FY2024 while reported Asian and Chinese production fell more sharply. The categories are Honda’s own regional groupings and may not sum to every country worldwide.

Geography FY2023 production FY2024 production FY2024 as share of FY2023
North America 1,605,323 1,608,441 100.2%
United States 1,029,492 988,756 96.0%
Asia 1,728,330 1,236,600 71.5%
China 1,169,695 760,918 65.1%

North American production was 1,605,323 automobiles in FY2023, or 128.5% of FY2022, before reaching 1,608,441 in FY2024. Within that aggregate, United States production was 1,029,492 in FY2023, or 118.8% of FY2022, and 988,756 in FY2024; Honda’s March 2025 release supplies these regional comparisons.

Asian production was 1,728,330 automobiles in FY2023, or 92.8% of FY2022, and 1,236,600 in FY2024. China accounted for 1,169,695 in FY2023, or 65.1% of FY2022, and 760,918 in FY2024, also 65.1% of FY2023.

The March 2025 monthly picture was more mixed: North American production reached 149,509 automobiles, or 107.7% of March 2024, while China produced 72,600, or 85.8% of March 2024. The source reports these as monthly regional and country totals.

Japan Production, Sales and Export Statistics

Japan’s figures demonstrate why production, domestic sales, registrations, mini-vehicle sales and exports must be treated as separate measures. A vehicle sold or registered during a period is not necessarily produced during that same period.

Japan measure FY2024 total Compared with FY2023
Automobile production 692,593 98.0%
Domestic automobile sales 668,582 109.4%
New-vehicle registrations 378,498 121.4%
Mini-vehicle sales 290,084 96.9%
Exports from Japan 84,850 90.4%

FY2024 production in Japan was 692,593 automobiles. Domestic sales were 668,582, new-vehicle registrations were 378,498, and mini-vehicle sales were 290,084; Honda identifies registrations as a subset of reported Japanese sales, while mini-vehicles are reported separately.

Exports from Japan totaled 84,850 automobiles in FY2024. Europe received 44,567, or 75.3% of FY2023’s level, while Honda’s other-destinations group received 27,243, or 119.4%; the categories describe exports from Japan, not all Honda exports globally.

Monthly results were lower in December 2024 than in December 2023 across the reported Japan measures. Production was 56,313 automobiles, or 81.3% of December 2023; domestic sales were 45,824, or 84.9%; registrations were 25,033, or 90.1%; and exports were 10,138, or 87.4%, according to Honda’s December 2024 production, sales and export report.

Honda Motorcycle Production Capacity and Sales

Honda’s motorcycle-related statistics cover several different populations. The Form 20-F combines motorcycles, ATVs and side-by-sides in one consolidated sales measure, while Honda’s motorcycle briefing and integrated report use motorcycle-specific populations or different geographic scopes.

Honda reported 13.685 million consolidated motorcycle, ATV and SxS units sold in FY2025, up 12.0% from FY2024. In the same consolidated operating-performance disclosure, power-products sales totaled 3.700 million units, down 2.9%, and automobile sales totaled 2.840 million, down 0.6%; these are sales, not production, in Honda’s FY2025 Form 20-F.

Honda’s 2025 motorcycle-business briefing described annual production capacity as exceeding 20 million units across 37 facilities in 23 countries and territories. Capacity is not audited output, and the briefing also said the motorcycle production network had more than 30,000 dealership locations worldwide.

For FY2025, Honda expected global motorcycle sales of 20.2 million units, approximately 40% of global motorcycle sales. This is a company forecast, and the associated cumulative global production statement said Honda was on track to reach 500 million motorcycles; that milestone was an outlook at the briefing date, not a completed milestone.

Honda Report 2025 recorded FY2025 motorcycle sales of 20.57 million units across 37 countries and regions. The report described this as the highest-ever result across those countries and regions and reported approximately 40% global motorcycle-market share; the population differs from the Form 20-F’s combined motorcycle, ATV and SxS measure, so the figures should not be merged.

Recent Monthly and Cumulative Honda Production

The January-November 2024 figures provide a partial calendar-year view before the December release. They should not be substituted for a full-year total.

Geography or period January-November 2024 production Share of comparable 2023 period
Worldwide 3,461,081 90.1%
North America 1,529,000 105.3%
United States 951,199 100.1%
Asia 1,210,495 72.7%
China 744,971 65.1%

Honda’s January-November 2024 worldwide production was 3,461,081 automobiles, or 90.1% of the comparable 2023 period. North America reached 1,529,000, or 105.3%, while United States production was 951,199, or 100.1%; the November 2024 production release labels these as partial-year totals.

Asia produced 1,210,495 automobiles from January through November 2024, or 72.7% of the comparable 2023 period. China produced 744,971, or 65.1%.

November 2024 worldwide production was 329,987 automobiles, or 79.6% of November 2023. Japan produced 63,850, or 83.7%, and production outside Japan was 266,137, or 78.7%; China produced 80,384, or 61.6%.

December added another regional reference point: North American production was 91,030 automobiles, or 84.6% of December 2023. Because monthly, partial-year, fiscal-year and calendar-year measures use different periods, each should be interpreted within its stated measurement window.
